Brief Description: Charter offers low cost toll free numbers as an addition to their business telephone numbers. An installation fee of $99 is need to get a hardline established although service is not offered in all areas.

There is no additional activation fee but you pay the first month up front. The cost is $60.00 for the hardline and includes the $2 fee for a toll free number but does not include tax (which is generally another $7-$8). That amount offers unlimited long distance calling from your hardline but does not include the toll free minutes, which are billed at 7 cents per minute. Package deals are also available but include both inbound and out usage. For instance, for $51 (plus tax) per month you can get a package of 100 minutes for the hardline and toll free included.

Additional minutes on either line will cost extra. Charter service is mostly month-to-month but contracts may exist in certain instances. A credit card is kept on file for the first six months of service but you can transfer service to another provider if needed. Customer service is knowledgeable once you get to the correct department.

CONS: Must use a Charter hardline for toll free service, total monthly cost exceeds $70 including taxes/fees, sparse minute plans, $99 installation charge, Credit card must be kept on file or you’re billed 6 months in advance.
