The United States Small Business Administration (aka the SBA) was established back in 1953 upon the signing of the Small Business Act, by then president Dwight Eisenhower, to serve as an independent agency of the federal government. Its mission is to provide aid to, advise, assist and defend the interests of small businesses. They also seek to promote competition, believing it to be the foundation of a strong and stable economy. Today there are several services that the SBA provides:
Information and advice resources
Federal contract procurement
Management assistance
Outreach programs for minorities, women, and veterans
Business loans and grants
Trade assistance
