Illinois Jail Phone Number Changed To Toll-Free Phone Sex
A toll-free telephone listing has been taken off Cook County Web sites, after callers found themselves connected to a phone-sex service.
The 800-number previously provided information about inmates at Cook County Jail.
Jail officials say they let the number lapse more than a year ago because of budget cuts. But they forgot to remove the listing from Web sites for the jail, county courts and official Web page of Sheriff Michael Sheahan.
Philadelphia-based telephone provider Prime-Tel communications acquired the number and reserved it for the phone-sex operator last April.
The number, the last four characters of which spell ‘jail’, was removed from county Web sites Monday.
