Tollfreenumer.ORG Celebrates Labor Day

While most countries around the world celebrate workers on May 1st of each year (International Workers’ Day), the United States celebrates its own version, called Labor Day, on the first Monday in September. Originally created to display the strength of trade and labor organizations, Labor Day festivities were known to include parades, speeches, and festivals held by and for workers and their families. Though nowadays the holiday is mostly known for signifying the end of summer and the beginning of the school year for children or football season for dad.
Recently Labor Day has become an important sales weekend for retail shops. In fact, according to some sources, Labor Day is second in sales only to the notorious Black Friday of the holiday shopping season. This is ironic because “some of those who are employed in the retail sector not only work on Labor Day, but work longer hours.” In addition, “more Americans work in the retail industry than any other, with retail employment making up 24% of all jobs in the United States but as of 2012, only 3% of those employed in the retail sector were members of a labor union.” (Source: Wikipedia) Kind of defeats the purpose of the holiday, wouldn’t you say?
