Protect Yourself from Scammers

Here at Tollfreenumber.ORG we’re known for our informative and instructive articles. But from time to time we’ve been compelled to take up the mantle of toll free industry watchdog as well. It’s not a task we take lightly. Far too many companies rely on shady tactics and hidden charges and they are loath to have their secrets revealed.
One of the lesser known and least talked about aspects of the toll free industry is the existence of toll free scammers. Everyone knows that the first step to avoid being taken advantage of is awareness and that is exactly why we’ve brought this problem to light; let this be our attempt to warn you so that you may never fall prey to a toll free scammer. We’ll not mince words here. These people are swindlers, out to defraud an uninformed public out of their hard-earned money. They operate using a variety of methods but their goal is the same: utilize a toll free number to inspire confidence in you and then, when your guard is lowered, take what they want.
The most commonly used tactic is for one of these con-men to contact an individual from a toll free number and inform them that they, or a loved one, owe money (usually to a government authority, utilities provider, or the IRS). In some cases they may even contact relatives of a deceased person. In most cases the scammer will demand that the victim purchase a pre-paid credit card and transfer funds over the phone. These innocent victims, convinced of the legitimacy of the scammer due to the presence of an official toll free 800 number, do as they’ve been asked and are duped out of hundreds of dollars.
Scams like these rarely appear on the front page of any news outlet, rather they’re buried in the back. It’s because of this that citizens aren’t often aware of what’s going on. To the uninformed this may seem like an exaggeration but in just the last month alone articles have appeared in several local papers as well as on Fox News and in official releases by the Better Business Bureau and the IRS.
